With over 30 years as a hairstylist and colorist in New York City, Sean Gallagher has crafted a signature style of “deconstructed glamour” that’s effortless, lived-in, and quietly bold. He trained at Bumble and Bumble and under industry icons including Oribe, Denilo, and London Colorist, Daniel Galvin. He refined his craft through an apprenticeship at Vidal Sassoon and under Serge Normant for John Frieda.


Sean wants his clients’ hairstyles to be versatile enough for everyday life, yet easily transformable into something glamorous for a special occasion or night out. He’s known for his natural-looking color, often with a pop and a discreet edge. The biggest compliment, in his opinion, is when strangers stop his clients on the street to ask about their hair.


His work has appeared on the runways of Oscar de la Renta, Versace, and more, and has been featured in publications including VOGUE, Nylon, Allure, W, among others. He has styled hair for clients attending events such as the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Met Gala, Tony Awards, CFDA Awards, and more. He was even the go-to hair stylist and colorists for the Knicks Dancers in the ’90s, when the team was in its prime (though he’s hopeful another prime is still to come).


His favorite part of the job? The relationships. Over the years, he’s gotten to know his clients beyond the chair — their partners, their work, their kids, and their biggest moments. He considers himself lucky to be part of so many of his clients’ milestones, from weddings to birthdays and everything in between. In his spare time, Sean enjoys spending time with his wife, Amanda, and their dogs. You can also find him reading historical biographies that put others to sleep.
